Are you excited by numerical models for wind turbine response? And would you like to work with leading experts in the field of offshore wind turbine aerodynamics and wind turbine response? DTU Wind is internationally recognized for its aero-elastic software and methodologies for both wind turbines and farms. We are expanding and improving our toolchain and are seeking a Development Engineer to our projects with concept development studies. This includes modelling of vertical axis turbines, new generator types and coupling to P2X systems. In close collaboration with scientific and technical colleagues, you will have a direct impact on developing new generation of tools with a strengthened focus on the integration with the future energy systems.
The position is in the Response, Aero-elasticity, Control and Hydrodynamics (REC) section located at our Risø campus. We focus on modelling and analysis of loads and dynamics, aeroelastic stability and control of both land-based and floating wind turbines. Our research results are integrated into our software tools. We have an increasing focus on validation against measurements. This is a highly multi-disciplinary area involving modelling of the non-stationary inflow field, aerodynamics, structural dynamics, structural stability and control.
The job
This position’s primary focus is to work closely with researchers and development engineers to develop and apply our models to new concepts. Examples are vertical axis turbines, novel designs of floating turbines, detailed modelling of drive train and gear box and dynamic cables. Specific work areas include
- Development, testing and support of DTU Wind Energy’s core aeroelastic software HAWC2 / HAWCStab2
- Load and performance studies
- Validation against measurements
- Coupling of HAWC2 to other models for flow and structural analysis
Collaboration with other sections in the department and external partners in international projects is part of the daily routine.
Our expectations of you
We are seeking candidates that have the following required competences:
- Background in Mechanical Engineering, Wind Energy or a physics based application field
- Good knowledge of the Fortran syntax, Python syntax and the scientific Python stack
- Good knowledge in aero-elasticity with experience from academia or industry
In addition, we expect you to have experience in several of the following technologies and scientific fields:
- Version control of software (e.g., Git)
- Structural mechanics and multibody dynamics simulations
Finally, we expect that you share our vision to strive for Wind Energy and its successful application in society are comfortably able to
- Work independently and to efficiently deliver results on time
- Work as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Take the initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines
