Department of People and Technology, Roskilde University, invites applications for a fixed term 18-months position as post doc from the 1st of February 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Department of People and Technology is the largest department at RUC, and covers a range of subject areas, broadly focused on human – society – technology interactions and covering e.g., sustainable transition, social interventions & entrepreneurship, urban planning, digital transformation, data science, computer science, work and health studies etc.

The position is linked to the research groups Sustainable Digitalisation (SDI) and Programming, Logic and Intelligent Systems (PLIS). SDI is working within the research areas of Information Systems (IS), Design Science Research (DSR) and/or Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) including Big Data and Data Analytics, while PLIS in addition to traditional theoretical computer science also covers research in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

We are looking for an applicant with a strong research profile related to applied data science, preferably within Green IT and sustainability. The applicant will be involved in the GameForGreen project: A game platform that lets society learn green and sustainable behavior through playing. The vision of the GameForGreen project is to develop an innovative game platform that combines serious games and gamification elements with the tracking of real-world data on for example water and heat consumption, waste sorting, transportation and other green areas. The data will be made available by municipalities participating in the GameForGreen project.

The candidate will work and do research affiliated with work package 3: “Create Data Analytics Overview” as well as work package 4 and 6 about building and evaluating the platform (only the data-related part). The main work has the following aims and objectives:

  • Identify data sources and repositories for consumers, households as well as employees.
  • Explore and analyze available data and data sources.
  • Develop a strategy for how to join and validate game play data with data sources.
  • Develop machine learning models to predict and dynamically change consumer responses based on game play data.
  • Publish state-of-the-art articles related to data science, machine learning and business development within highly regarded Information Systems and Computer Science conferences and journals.

We expect the applicant to participate in, anchor and lead development tasks of work package 3, by engaging both with the 5 project contributors (municipalities and companies) as well as the developers of the game platform. We look for applicants that have a strong interest and expertise in collaborative methods and on subjective experiences of and engagements in social and behavioral changes. We encourage candidates from transdisciplinary and international research environments possessing the ability to collaborate with researchers from multiple fields of research and countries to apply for this position. It will, however, be a clear advantage to be able to work in Danish; the language used in the project.

Responsibilities and tasks
The post doc will solely be associated to the tasks in the GameForGreen project, as well as research-based teaching and supervision.

The ideal candidate for this position is expected to:
  • Perform research and publish in leading international, peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
  • Take responsibility for research and development tasks in the GameForGreen project.
  • Contribute to the development of research projects and engage in research partnerships.
  • Contribute to the research profile of the Department and the SDI and PLIS research groups.
  • Contribute to the development of research networks nationally and internationally, including industry, civil and public sector partners.
  • Actively contribute to the research environment by a visible and physical presence at the Department.

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications.

The applicant is expected to possess initiative and good intercultural and cooperative skills, be visible and actively contribute to organizing the daily activities in the research groups and the connected teaching programs. The applicant should cover several of the following academic orientations:
  • Applied data science.
  • Data analytics
  • Data engineering.
  • Analysis of (game) user data.
  • Machine learning.
  • Statistics.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to
  • relevance of research expertise for the Game4Green project and the research groups’ focus areas,
  • the ability to create, promote and utilize research results,
  • networks, experience from international research environments and collaborative abilities

Terms of employment
The employment is on full time, 37 hours per week and you will refer to the Dean of the Department of people and Technology.

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.

After the deadline for applications the Dean will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee.

Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.

The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.
