Are you passionate about marine mammals and want to help monitoring how populations respond to different environmental pressures this may be the position you have been looking for. At Aarhus University, we seek a highly talented senior advisor with strong analytical skills to help monitoring seals and porpoises, and to provide advice regarding the impacts of different kinds of disturbances. Applications are invited for a senior advisor position at the Department of Ecoscience at Aarhus University, Denmark.
This is a permanent position; the expected start date is 1 April 2024 or as soon possible thereafter.
Job description
The position will focus on monitoring of marine mammals, in particular seals and porpoises, and on analysing the collected data to better understand how sensitive these species are to various environmental pressures. The successful candidate is expected to help design and execute monitoring programmes involving aerial surveys, passive acoustic monitoring, and satellite tracking of seals and porpoises. The job involves both preparation and maintenance of equipment, field work, data analyses, and preparation of reports and scientific papers. The results of the monitoring work constitute the basis for the advice we provide to the Danish Ministry of Environment and private companies on how marine mammals are affected by human disturbances and other pressures on the marine environment.
The successful candidate will join a strong research team with a long tradition for collaborating closely on providing research-based advice. The team includes leading experts in underwater acoustics, satellite telemetry, biologging, photogrammetry, energetics, modelling, drone and aircraft monitoring, genetics, contaminants, animal health, and data analyses, and is thus the ideal setting for developing a wide range of new skills in an inspiring environment. The candidate will get the opportunity to develop new research areas and is expected to help secure external research funding. The position thus offers a unique opportunity to work on a wide range of topics and to help acquire new scientific knowledge that is needed for managing marine mammals.
