The position

We are looking for a student assistant for data collection and qualitative data analysis at the Department of Environmental Science of Aarhus University (Risø campus in Roskilde).

As a student assistant, you will be involved in the research project URBANOME where you will be given specific tasks around collecting, managing, and analyzing research data. In URBANOME we conduct empirical research on the governance of different urban living labs across Europe, which promote urban health, wellbeing and liveability by integrating health concerns in urban policies and the activities of urban citizens.


Your work tasks will include:


  • Gathering and reviewing academic literature on experimental governance and urban living labs
  • Prepare and conduct data collection, especially via policy document analysis, interviews (online and in-person), focus groups; note taking, software transcription and at times translation
  • Coding and qualitative data analysis using NVivo
  • Administrative support with e.g. data management, contact to interviewees, room bookings.
  • Potentially complementary tasks for associated research projects at the department
In this position, you will engage with the URBANOME project network and be involved in WP2 (Urban living labs) and WP7 (Innovative governance). Your supervisor and permanent contact person will be Anne Jensen who leads WP7.

In addition to your regular work hours, you may have flexible working hours according to the need in the project to the extent that your studies allow it.
 

Professional and personal qualifications

We are looking for a student assistant who we can safely entrust the tasks with and who is willing to participate in the research team. Also, the student assistant should:
  • Have a university-study background in social sciences (political science, public administration, or a related discipline)
  • Is familiar with social scientific research methods, incl. literature reviews, coding and interviews
  • Has some basic skills with analytical software, such as NVivo
  • Is fluent in written English and speaks English well
  • Has a natural interest in the themes of URBANOME
  • Is positive, meticulous, curious, and reliable in their approach to work
  • Collaborative, responsible and minded for team work

The workplace is the Department of Environmental Studies, Aarhus University, Frederiksborgvej 399, 4000 Roskilde.
 

Terms of employment

You are employed as an hourly paid student assistant. The employment covers an average of 10 hours weekly. Work time is flexible. Options for working from home are available. Your contract starts from 15 April 2024.

Formalities and salary range

Salary and terms as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Union of Commercial and Clerical Employees in Denmark/State (HK/Stat) for clerical staff, laboratory technicians and IT employees and the joint collective agreement concluded between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Organisations of Public Employees - Denmark - Danish State Sector (the OAO-S joint collective agreement).
