Department of People and Technology, Roskilde University, invites applications for a tenured position as associate professor from the 1st of December 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Department of People and Technology is the largest department at Roskilde University, and covers a range of subject areas, broadly focused on human – society – technology interactions and covering e.g., health studies, sustainable transition, social interventions & entrepreneurship, urban planning, digital transformation, data science, work studies etc. The position is linked to the Health Promotion research group, but research collaboration outside the group is encouraged. The research group is multidisciplinary and covers research in the areas of health policy & welfare studies, health professions & learning, ageing & care, mental health, ethnicity & migration, welfare technologies & critical data studies, birth, reproduction & family care. The research group has recently expanded to include a number of researchers within nursing and clinical health care, as well as added an additional MSc in Nursing to the portfolio.
We are looking for an applicant with a strong research profile within biostatistics applied to clinical and public health, welfare studies more widely and with experience or interest in mixed method research.
We expect the applicant to participate in nurturing our multidisciplinary work environment in the Health Promotion Research group. We encourage strong candidates with an international research profile, possessing the ability to collaborate with researchers from multiple fields of health research (e.g. anthropology, sociology, psychology, political science etc.) to apply for this position.
The applicant will be associated with the MSc study program in Nursing at Roskilde University Sygepleje | Roskilde Universitet (ruc.dk). The position is closely linked to the major biostatistics and quantitative analysis courses on the MSc program. The applicant is required to have a strong pedagogic sense for delivering teaching in relevant quant and biostatistical methods for the student cohort of nurses.
Besides the Nursing MSc, the position will likely include some teaching in one or several of the following MSc programs:

  • Tværvidenskabelige sundhedsstudier
  • Socialpsykologi og Læring
  • Arbejdslivsstudier

Teaching tasks consist partly of student or project supervision and partly of course teaching, as well as planning teaching activities. The university’s employment policy requires that employees can teach in Danish within 3 years of employment – preferably sooner.

Responsibilities and tasks
The associate professor will perform research broadly within the field of Health promotion and welfare studies as well as research-based teaching and supervision. Applicants are referred to the university’s Faculty expectations for specifications on the required level of qualifications within research, teaching, networking, fundraising, impact and outreach etc.

The ideal candidate for this position is expected to:
  • Perform research contributing to the universities profile within nursing, health care and welfare studies and publish papers in leading international, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Develop and nurture research networks nationally and internationally.
  • Take responsibility to strengthen the Departments profile on quant-based research within health care
  • Contribute to teaching within the nursing MSc and others
  • Actively contribute to the multidisciplinary research environment by a visible and physical presence at the department


Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications, as well as research qualifications and teaching experience equivalent of what can be achieved in a successful assistant professor employment.

The applicant is expected to possess initiative and good intercultural and cooperative skills, be visible and actively contribute to organizing the daily activities in the research group and the connected teaching programs. The applicant should cover several of the following academic orientations:
  • Strong background in applied biostatistics specifically applied to the field of clinical and public health
  • Expertise in advanced biostatistical methods and interest in mixed method research
  • Ability to teach biostatistics to a cohort of students with a variety of disciplinary backgrounds (nursing, social science, public health etc.


Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to
  • relevance of research expertise for the research groups’ focus areas, and ability to engage in a multidisciplinary research environment
  • the ability to create, promote and utilize research results,
  • experience in teaching and education development and management,
  • the ability to create an engaged and interactive learning environment that motivate and inspire students to develop all aspects of their profiles,
  • networks, experience from international research environments and collaborative abilities

Terms of employment
The employment is on full time, 37 hours per week and you will refer to the Dean at People and Technology

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.

After the deadline for applications the Dean will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee.

Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.

The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.
