The section for System Engineering and Optimization (SYS) at DTU Wind and Energy Systems is offering an exciting opportunity to work as an a development engineer. You will work within the field of system engineering applied to wind based energy systems (Wind Farms, Wind Clusters, and Hybrid Power Plants, including wind, solar, batteries, P2X), in collaboration with domain experts from different sections.
The job
You will join an international team that works with developing methods and software tools for supporting research internally at DTU and externally in the wind industry. The System Engineering and Optimization section of DTU Wind is a group of researchers and development engineers working closely with domain experts from other sections to address real problems faced by the wind industry to simulate, design and control complex wind-based energy systems.
Furthermore, you will be part of a dynamic work environment with a pleasant team atmosphere, where you will have the opportunity to grow and develop your academical, technical, industrial, and personal skills. Besides participation in cutting-edge research, as a development engineer, you are given the opportunity to lead the development of world-class scientific software tools used in research projects, collaborate with industry, participate in writing papers, participate in teaching training courses, and co-supervise MSc students, which allows them to develop various skills for the next stages of their career.
Our expectations of you
In the position you are expected to contribute to high-quality research and develop high-quality code at the intersection of wind farm flow modelling, wind based energy system design and control and electrical systems engineering.
We imagine that you are a self-motivated and team-oriented person who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys working with complex topics. You must hold a MSc or equivalent and to be successful in the position you have expertise within:
- Scientific python programming
- Optimization and / or Control
- Problem-solving, and ability to create efficient numerical algorithms
On a personal level you possess:
- Excellent command of the English language
- Good ability to present results in written documents and oral presentations.
Finally, it is highly advantegeuous, if you have experience with:
- Machine Learning / AI
- Wind Farm Flow Modelling
- Wind Farm design and / or control
- Wind farm electrical cable layout optimization
- Contributing to open-source software development and documentation, CI and community engagement
- Running code on high performance computers and / or GPUs
- version control systems such as Git.
- simulation tools and environments relevant to wind energy (e.g., PyWake, TOPFARM, FLORIS, WRF, FAST, HAWC2, WAsP).

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
Expected starting date is 1st of March 2024 or as soon as possible according to mutual agreement. The position is a full-time position.
