BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

If you want to make a difference and are looking for the best possible place to satisfy your personal ambitions and curiosity for developing composite materials technologies, you might be our new colleague. At DTU Wind and Energy Systems, you will join a team of dedicated scientists, engineers, and research technicians – working together with the overall goal of exploring and understanding fiber-reinforced composite materials for wind turbine blades.

Over the last 40 years, wind turbine blades have grown in magnitude and complexity. This development is closely linked with an improved understanding of the performance of composite materials. Experimental work in the DTU Wind and Energy Systems composite labs is coupled with research and development on the special characteristics of composites covering central themes of cure cycle design, manufacturing, leading edge erosion, recycling, and fatigue performance.

The job
The position will be anchored in the Composites Manufacturing and Testing Section with 27 employees. You will become a member of the Fiberlab team where you will contribute to the work on developing technologies primarily for manufacturing and characterization of fiber-reinforced composites. Furthermore, extensive bridging activities are expected with Testlab (accredited mechanical testing facility) and our newly established rain erosion testing facility.

Your focus will be on manufacturing, characterizing, and testing composite material involving examination of the entire chain from single glass and carbon fibers and their properties to documented processing of composite laminates, and finally to accredited mechanical testing by standard methods, as well as the development of new techniques. Furthermore, development activities related to the establishment of a new rain erosion test facility (specimen preparation, development of analysis tools, performing RET test) will be part of your daily work.

Your main responsibilities can be summarized in:

  • Responsible for filament winding development activities
  • Documented manufacturing of test laminates by vacuum infusion process
  • Characterization of constituents and composites with gas pycnometer, DSC and DMA
  • Developing sample manufacturing for rain erosion tests
  • Performing and developing rain erosion tests
  • Development of scripts for data analysis using Matlab or Python
  • Evaluation of data and reporting

Our expectations
The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Materials Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Processing Engineering), or equivalent
  • Experience in manufacturing and characterization of fiber-reinforced polymer composites for wind turbine blades or other applications
  • Experience in programming, e.g. Matlab, Python
  • Flexible, proactive, autonomous, structured, easy-going, team player
  • Practical and result-oriented
  • Experience with project work and delivering at deadlines
  • Experience, and interest in, writing scientific publications
  • Excellent English communication skills in writing and speaking (English is the work language)
  • Quality driven and awareness around accreditation (ISO17025) is an advantage
  • Industrial experience is an advantage
