If you hold a PhD in medical biology and are interested in working as a postdoctoral researcher at an interdisciplinary university, we invite you to apply. The position starts on 1 Marts 2026 and is time-limited to 1.5 years. You will be employed in the Section of Molecular and Medical Biology. The project focuses on developing cell-based assays with the potential to predict cancer relapse following surgical treatment, as well as analyzing cancer patient samples to evaluate the predictive value of these assays.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Your primary responsibility will be to conduct research in the field of cancer biology in close collaboration with clinicians.
  • You are expected to be highly dedicated to laboratory-based research and capable of working independently.
  • The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, able to perform repetitive experimental protocols with high accuracy, and skilled in troubleshooting experimental challenges.
  • You should also demonstrate creative and critical thinking, contributing to the development of new approaches to overcome scientific and technical obstacles.
  • In addition, you will be involved in teaching activities at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels.

Qualifications
  • Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent years of experience within medical biology or molecular biology.
  • Experimental experience with methods like cell culturing and cell-based assays.
  • Knowledge within innovation, IP and entrepreneurship is needed
  • Teaching experience with project supervision and course lecturing and coordination is needed
  • Excellent written and oral English language communication skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to details and a focus on quality results

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:
  • experience in developing cell-based assay
  • experience in collaboration with clinicians and performing clinical studies
  • experience in innovation and entrepreneurship
  • experience in teaching at bachelor’s and master’s levels

About the department
Department of Science and Environment is one of four departments at Roskilde University. The Department conducts basic and applied research within mathematics, medical biology, physics, molecular biology, environmental sciences, and chemistry. Bachelor and Master programs are offered within these areas. Research and education within the fields takes place in a collaborative and interdisciplinary university environment also spanning collaboration with the other departments covering social sciences and humanities where relevant. The department is organised in four Sections comprising the research and education activities.

About the Molecular & Medical Biology Section at the department
The Molecular & Medical Biology Section conducts research in basic and translational science of molecular biology and biomedical problems. Common to all activities is an interest in cellular signaling pathways affecting cell appearance, metabolism and behaviour. The research group covers a broad spectrum of biological disciplines and works with bacteria, yeast, insect and mammalian cells as model systems. The Molecular & Medical Biology Research Section is located in a modern laboratory building fully equipped to do research in biology and chemistry.

Terms of employment
The employment is on full time, 37 hours per week and you will refer to professor Jesper Troelsen.

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
