Department of People and Technology, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as associate professor in Digital Transformation from October 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Department of People and Technology is the largest department at RUC and covers a range of subject areas, broadly focused on human–society–technology interactions and including, for example, sustainable transition, social entrepreneurship, urban planning, psychology and learning, sustainable digitalization, work, and health studies. The position is linked to the research group Sustainable Digitalisation working within the research areas of Information Systems (IS), Participatory Design (PD), Design Science Research (DSR), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW).

We are looking for an applicant with a strong research profile in one and preferably more of the following areas: sustainable digitalisation, digital transformation, process innovation, technostress, digital leadership, user participation, digital design, and implementation and organisational change.

We expect an applicant with a predominantly empirical approach to research, including action research, design science research, and workplace studies. The ideal applicant has documented experience in attracting and managing external project funding from national or international funding bodies with connected scientific publications in reviewed international scientific journals. We encourage candidates from transdisciplinary research environments possessing the ability to collaborate with researchers from multiple fields of research to apply for this position.

The applicant is expected to teach at both the undergraduate Informatics programme and the Digital Transformation graduate programme. It will also be advantageous if the applicant can teach in the executive master programme in project management and organisational change. The teaching tasks consist partly of course teaching and partly of project supervision.

Responsibilities and tasks
The associate professor’s work will primarily consist of research, including obligations concerning publication/scientific communication, and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations. The ideal candidate can teach in several or all of the following education programmes:

  • The bachelor programme in humanities and technology and the bachelor programme in informatics (https://ruc.dk/humtek and https://ruc.dk/bachelor/informatik)
  • The graduate programme in Digital Transformation (https://ruc.dk/kandidat/digital-transformation)
  • The Executive Master programme in project and change management (https://ruc.dk/mpf)

In addition to research and teaching, the position also requires sharing knowledge with partners outside of academia, including participation in the public debate. The applicant must participate actively in the activities organized by the research group and contribute to the development of problem-oriented and transdisciplinary research projects with colleagues as well as external partners.

The applicant must contribute to the ongoing development of the problem-oriented project-learning teaching model and be part of strengthening the interdisciplinary, exemplary, and collaborative approach, characteristic of the teaching environment at Roskilde University.

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent within IS, HCI, CSCW, or a similar field. The successful candidate will become a member of the research group Sustainable Digitalisation and should relate their research to the group (see more at https://forskning.ruc.dk/en/organisations/bæredygtig-digitalisering).

Applicants are referred to the university’s Faculty expectations for further specification of the required level of qualification within research, teaching, networking, fundraising, impact, outreach, and so forth (the Faculty Expectations are available at: https://ruc.dk/en/working-roskilde-university#accordion-Supplementary-sources).

The ideal candidate shall possess good cooperative skills, be visible, and actively participate in the daily activities of the research group and the connected teaching programmes. The candidate should be willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

The candidate is expected to master Danish (or Swedish/Norwegian), be able to teach and supervise in Danish and participate in ongoing administrative and collegial cooperation. Mastery of Danish is also critical to the possibility of conducting empirical research in Danish settings. If the candidate does not master Danish, they are expected to learn the language within three years of employment.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to;
  • relevance of research expertise for the position and research group,
  • experience in teaching and in education development and management,
  • relevance of teaching expertise for the educational programmes,
  • scientific production at an international level,
  • the ability to create, promote, and utilize research results,
  • the ability to create an engaged and interactive learning environment that motivates and inspires students to develop all aspects of their profiles,
  • the ability to attract external funding and manage research projects in collaboration with external partners,
  • networks, experience from research environments and collaborative abilities.

Experiences with problem-oriented project supervision and teaching at the university level are an advantage.
