The Department of People and Technology (IMT), Roskilde University, invites applications for a tenured position as associate professor in Health & Society. The position will commence from 01-12-2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Department of People and Technology is the largest department at Roskilde University, researching human – society – technology interactions and covering e.g., health, nursing, sustainability, urban planning, digital transformation, work studies etc. The position is linked to the Health and Society Section covering an interdisciplinary group of researchers, focusing on contemporary health-related issues and challenges.

The section offers an innovative environment for health research, characterized by academic and methodological diversity, based on anthropology, sociology, science and technology studies, nursing science, social psychology, public health science, biostatistics and epidemiology. The group produces research at the highest international level that feeds into educational programs, such as Master in Critical Health Studies, Master in Health Promotion, Master in Nursing Science and BA programs in Humanities and Technology (HUMTEK) and Health Promotion. The group collaborates extensively with external partners at local, regional, and national levels, hereby contributing to societal change, while simultaneously emphasizing international outreach and collaboration with international partners.

The Health & Society section is currently expanding and strengthening its research. We are seeking a candidate with a strong international research profile and a clear research focus on emerging health practices, conditions, and contexts. We particularly welcome applications from candidates engaged in contemporary health research with a strong foundation in qualitative methods. Research areas may include mental health, ageing and care, digital health, reproduction and family care, multimorbidity and health inequalities, professional development and learning, although applications are not limited to these areas

The ideal candidate engages with evolving theoretical perspectives in international research and demonstrates a commitment to problem- and practice-oriented education and learning. We also emphasise the candidate’s ability to collaborate with external partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities and tasks
Applicants are referred to the university’s Faculty expectations for specifications on the required level of qualifications for associate professors at IMT within research, teaching, networking, fundraising, impact and outreach etc. The candidate for this position is expected to:

  • Perform research contributing to the Health and Society Sections research profile and publish papers in leading international, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Attract external funding for research projects including PhD funding
  • Develop and nurture research networks and collaboration nationally and internationally.
  • Take responsibility to strengthen the Health and Society sections’ profile nationally and internationally
  • Develop and manage teaching and problem-oriented education, primarily in relation to Master of Critical Health Studies
  • Demonstrate academic leadership and citizenship in everyday academic life in the department and the section
  • Actively contribute to the research environment by a visible and physical presence
  • Contribute to developing models for stakeholder engagement in education and research

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in social science (e.g., sociology, anthropology, public health, political science, human geography, organization and learning) or equivalent qualifications, as well as research and teaching qualifications equivalent to what can be achieved in a successful assistant professor employment.

Qualifications within the following areas are required:
  • strong international research profile
  • experience with problem-oriented education
  • experience with stakeholder engagement in research and teaching
  • Proficiency in Danish (or Swedish/Norwegian) at a level sufficient for teaching and supervision in Danish.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:
  • relevance of research expertise and ability to engage in a multidisciplinary research environment
  • the ability to create, promote and utilize research results
  • the ability to attract external funding for research projects including PhD funding
  • experience in problem-oriented teaching and education development
  • ability to create an engaged and motivating learning environment
  • ability to contribute to the development of the department’s internal and external collaboration

Terms of employment
The employment is full time, 37 hours per week and you will refer to the Head of Department at IMT, Peter Kjær.

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.

After the deadline for applications the Head of Department will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee.

Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.

The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.

Once the recruitment process is completed, all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application.
