If you are hoping for a career in industrial R&D or academia where you can contribute to the production of low carbon energy and explore laser-based atmospheric measurement techniques for wind energy applications, then this subject may interest you.
We need a candidate for a 3-year PhD project about “Novel wind lidar configurations for wind energy applications” . It is an industrial doctorate where you will be employed 50% of the time at DTU Wind and Energy Systems in Denmark and 50 % of the time at the lidar remote sensing company Lumibird in France.
You are
- Curious, collaborative, and resilient.
- Persistent, passionate, and perseverant in solving novel problems.
- Internationally experienced with an ability to communicate efficiently in English and to work in a multicultural and cross-disciplinary environment.
- A passionate purpose-driven learner and experimenting explorer.
- Having a background in Engineering Physics or similar.
- Interested in or skilled in system engineering for remote sensing (electro-optical system), signal treatment, data analysis and programming, atmospheric flow and turbulence, photonics, and related topics.
You will explore the design space of lidar configurations tailored for capturing turbulent atmospheric flow events of critical importance for wind energy applications and develop state of the art algorithms to enhance our understanding of these atmospheric phenomena and their consequences.
You will be part of The Atmospheric Physics and Turbulence for Wind Energy (AptWind) Doctoral Network that provides training for a new creative, entrepreneurial, innovative and resilient industry-oriented academic generation apt to face current and future challenges at the frontier of research within atmospheric flow physics and turbulence for wind energy applications, where the trained Doctoral Candidates (DCs) will be able to convert knowledge and ideas into new products, and services for economic and social benefit.
You will not only as a member of the family of fifteen peer DCs in AptWind be facilitated in reaching a high level of technical and project-specific excellence, but you will also be provided many opportunities for developing skills that are transferable to a wider landscape of opportunities. As you will share your work time 50-50 between academia and industry, after completing the program, you will have a thorough understanding of the process from research via innovation to industry implementation and a strong career-defining network. AptWind is funded by Horizon Europe through grant number 101119550, see www.aptwind.eu for more information.
You must
meet the eligibility criteria about mobility etc. that you can read about at www.aptwind.eu/eligibility.
Furthermore, the scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes at DTU. For information about our enrolment requirements and the general planning of the PhD study programme, please see DTU's rules for the PhD education
. In essence, you need to have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree and some international experience.
Assessment of the PhD candidate will be handled through a competitive application process. Online applications will be screened against a set of criteria and a shortlist of candidates will be assessed by a specifically formed committee consisting of both DTU and Lumibird representatives.
We offer
a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. DTU
is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.
