The RUCSAXS manager/research engineer is responsible for daily user contact including standard data analysis and basic equipment maintenance together with method and facility development.
The RUCSAXS manager/research engineer position is minimum a 3.5-year position.
Roskilde University interdisciplinary x-ray scattering hub, RUCSAXS, is a state-of-the-art x-ray lab facility (Xenocs XEUSS 3.0 XL UHR with an Eiger detector) funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and hosted at the Department of Science and Environment, Roskilde University, Denmark
- RUCSAXS serves a broad range of users regarding both level of experience and scientific discipline (Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
- RUCSAXS is an important asset for training and collaboration in relation to the European Spallation Source in Lund and other international large scale x-ray and neutron facilities following the strategy of the Department of Science end Environment.
- RUCSAXS strategy is to build a minor portfolio of open access users from science and from industry together with in-house users.
- The Department of Science and Environment hosts a well-equipped workshop specializing in custom-made sample environments for use at e.g. RUCSAXS
Tasks and qualifications
Your main task is to secure smooth daily operation in collaboration with RUCSAXS PI, Dorthe Posselt and workshop team leader, Bo Jakobsen.
- You are responsible for helping daily users with practical issues and standard data analysis.
- You are responsible for facility safety issues, for basic facility maintenance and for keeping track of facility use for reporting purposes.
- You will contribute to building a portfolio of industry users.
- You will contribute to development of custom-made sample environments.
- You will assist in teaching and training related to RUCSAXS.
- You will assist the RUCSAXS PI with reporting and cooperate with the RUC administration on tasks related to project administration.
- You will have the possibility to define a minor method developing project of your own depending on your specific qualifications.
We are looking for a candidate with a solid experience in experimental work. The ideal candidate has experience with x-ray and/or neutron scattering techniques, ideally small-angle scattering (SAXS/GISAXS/SANS) and/or wide-angle scattering (WAXS/GIWAXS).
- You have a PhD in experimental Physics, Material Science, Biophysics, Chemistry or equivalent qualifications as e.g. research engineer. In case of a very good match with the position description, candidates with a relevant Master degree are also encouraged to apply.
- You have experience with analysis and modelling of experimental data.
- In the ideal case you have experience working with a team of technicians to develop new experimental setups.
- You have good communication skills and can differentiate between different levels of communication.
- You are motivated for working in an interdisciplinary scientific environment with RUCSAXS users at all levels of experience.
- You can handle administrative tasks and reporting efficiently.
- You have good collaborative and relational skills and actively seek to include and inform relevant parties as well as contribute to building a strong RUCSAXS user network.
- You take responsibility and co-ownership for both your daily working tasks and for the development of the RUCSAXS facility
RUCSAXS is hosted by the Department of Science and Environment. Within the Department, RUCSAXS is anchored in FRUSTMI (RUC Center for Frustrated Molecular Interactions) and IMFUFA (the Physics and Mathematics group).
For your daily work and daily prioritizing of work tasks you refer to the RUCSAXS PI, Dorthe Posselt, while you formally will be part of the team headed by team leader for workshop and high performance computing, Bo Jakobsen.

Terms of employment
Employment is full-time, 37 hours pr. week. Employment conditions and salary will be negotiated in accordance with the relevant union agreement as an academic officer or special consultant, with the possibility of negotiation of personal salary supplement. The RUCSAXS manager/research engineer position is financed for a minimum of 3.5 years with good prospects for prolongation. The position is a TAP (academic technical staff) position and not a scientific career track position
