BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

We are now seeking a candidate for a 3-year PhD project in electricity market and renewable energy economics. If you want to contribute to the green transition of society, thrive in collaborative team work and have ambitions for an academic research career, then you might be our new colleague in our new research section ‘Society, Market & Policy’ (SMP) at DTU Wind and Energy Systems, where we offer a vibrant and inspiring research community in social sciences embedded in an engineering environment.

The PhD student will be part of the project Electricity Market Reform for Renewable Energy Sources (EMRRES), which is a joint project between DTU and the School of Management at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The overarching goal of EMRRES is to provide data-driven and evidence-based contributions to efficient design for renewables-based electricity markets and policies.

Responsibilities and qualifications
We are seeking candidates with a Master's degree, preferably in economics or similar, and at least with documented qualifications in micro-economics, economic analysis and financial modelling through dedicated courses and/or related work.

The research will involve analysis of outcomes and implications of different market design options, renewable energy policies for market design and technological innovation, and implications for electricity markets, including long-term financial contracting. Contracts-for-difference will be at the heart of the analysis.

The research may involve different methods, including financial modelling, portfolio analysis, agent-based modelling, and general equilibrium energy systems. The analysis is likely to draw from auction theory and contract theory, as well as empirical approaches (i.e. econometrics) that utilise rich data from European electricity markets.

Besides this, tasks of the PhD student may include teaching and supervising Masters students, as well as participation in outreach and dissemination activities of the department commensurate with research at PhD level.

You must have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

The following further qualifications will be considered in the assessment:

  • Strong background and interest in sustainable energy
  • Experience within energy policy analysis from an economic perspective
  • Quantitative skills and experience with data analysis and data processing
  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and oral presentation
  • Open-minded team player, able to work in multidisciplinary and multinational teams
  • A longer-term interest in pursuing a research career

The working language of the project is English and thus the candidate must have suitable skills in both written and spoken English. Proficiency in a Scandinavian language is not required, but we expect an openness to learn Danish during the stay with us.
